Burhan Eren is an accomplished and well-rounded lawyer with extensive experience in family law, estate planning, wills, and probate matters. Since joining Cohen Lawyers in September 2023 as the Head of Family Law, Burhan has continued to leverage his extensive family law background while also expanding his expertise to include comprehensive estate planning services, working collaboratively with financial planners and accountants to provide clients with holistic asset structuring and succession strategies.
Burhan is known for his empathetic yet strategic approach, assisting clients through complex family law matters including divorce, property settlement, spousal maintenance, child support, and parenting disputes involving family violence and parental alienation. His ability to clearly communicate processes, legal principles, and strategic options empowers clients to make well-informed decisions throughout their legal journey.
In addition to family law, Burhan is highly skilled in wills, probate, and estate administration. He regularly advises executors, beneficiaries, and families in the administration of deceased estates, contested wills, and estate litigation. Burhan also provides comprehensive estate planning advice, structuring wills and trusts to protect assets and ensure the effective distribution of wealth.
Prior to joining Cohen Lawyers in 2022, Burhan gained extensive litigation experience working in a Melbourne CBD-based firm, where he managed complex financial agreements for high-net-worth clients, oversaw intricate property settlements, and regularly appeared in court in contested family law matters. Additionally, his early career included working directly at the Family Court of Australia and in the legal department of National Australia Bank, providing him with a solid foundation in court processes, procedural rules, and financial disputes.
Burhan holds a Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Leo Cussen Centre for Law.
Outside of work, Burhan enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and staying active through various sports.
